Privacy and terms, in plain words

Walk-On Daily is a set of free daily games. You never sign up or tell us who you are, and the site is built to keep as little about you as it can.

Your progress stays in your browser

Each game saves your finished results, your guesses on a puzzle you haven't finished, and (if you're still playing at midnight) which day that game counts for, in your browser's own storage on this device. Your streaks, stats, trophies and the home page's day card are worked out from those results, right there, and the trophies you earn are kept beside them. Apart from the totals below, none of it is sent to us or anyone else, and we can't see it. Your browser also notes which games it has already counted a finish or a share for (kept for a few days), so each one is counted once. Clearing your browser's site data erases it, and a different phone or browser starts fresh.

What each game keeps

Firing Season. Firing Season keeps only your results and the calls on a day you haven't finished. Each reveal links to the two news reports behind that decision; a link opens on the publisher's own site, which has its own privacy policy, and nothing about your game goes with it.

No accounts

There is nothing to sign up for. We never ask for your name, your email or anything else about you to play.

What we count

We count how many times each game is opened and finished, the scores, and share taps, as totals only. Nothing that identifies you. An open is counted on Cloudflare's side when a day's puzzle file is served: the game and the date, nothing about who asked. A finish sends the game, the date and a score range (like "4/5" or "got it in 3") to a small counting service of ours on Cloudflare, and a share tap sends the game and the date. No id goes with either. To stop one network from skewing the totals, the service keeps a daily scramble of your network address (mixed with a random value it makes fresh each day, so it can't be traced back or matched across days), counts at most 60 of each per network a day, and deletes the scramble within about four days. It never stores your IP address. What stays is only the day's totals. To show how your score ranks ("better than 72% of players"), the home page asks the service for that day's totals for a game, sending only the game and the date, and works out your place on your device.

No cookies, no tracking

The site sets no cookies and runs no analytics, ads or tracking scripts. The totals above come from the site's own server and counting service, not a script that follows you. If we ever add another way to count visits, it will be one that uses no cookies and doesn't follow you around the web, and it will be named here before it goes live. The same goes for ads or a sponsor: they will be named here first. The site doesn't track what you do across other sites, and no ad or analytics company tracks you through it, so it works the same whether or not your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal.

Like every website, the pages come from a hosting service (Cloudflare), whose servers see the basic details any browser sends when it asks for a page, such as an IP address, in order to deliver it and keep out attacks. Cloudflare keeps logs of those requests for a limited time and shows us traffic totals and a sample of flagged requests, which can include IP addresses, for up to a month. We don't use any of it to identify you. If Cloudflare ever needs to check that a visitor isn't a bot, it can set a short-lived security cookie for that check only; it isn't used for tracking or ads.

Your data, your call

We never ask for your name or email to play. If you write to us, we get your email address and whatever you send; Cloudflare forwards it to our inbox (Gmail), and we use it only to reply. Ask and we'll delete it; otherwise we delete it within 12 months. What your browser keeps is yours: clearing this site's data erases it.

Kids

The site is for a general audience and isn't aimed at children under 13. It never asks for personal information, and we don't knowingly collect any from children under 13. If you think a child has emailed us, tell us and we'll delete it.

Accessibility

We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. Every page was tested with a keyboard and checked for accessibility (labels, contrast, headings and focus) at phone and desktop sizes before launch. If something gets in your way, write to us at the address below and we'll fix it.

Sharing your result

The share button copies your result as a short line of text, or opens your phone's share sheet. Nothing is posted anywhere unless you paste or send it yourself. The tap itself is counted as a total (see What we count).

Where the data comes from

The history games are built from CollegeFootballData.com, ESPN, the NCAA, school record books, newspaper archives, historical betting-line feeds, nflverse (under CC BY 4.0) and Wikipedia contributors (under CC BY-SA 4.0), and every fact about a real game, player or coach has to match in two sources. Pre-Snap is a strategy game built from coaching articles. How the data is verified explains each game.

Not affiliated

Walk-On Daily is an independent fan project. Not affiliated with or endorsed by the NCAA, the NFL, the Associated Press, ESPN, the Heisman Trophy Trust, or any school, team, conference, bowl, player, coach, news outlet or data source. School, team, conference, league, bowl, poll and award names, Heisman included, appear as plain text only, to say what a fact is about. No team, conference, league, bowl or award logos, and no trophy images, are used. After a matchup is answered, Blind Ballot and Recount show a plain drawn jersey with the player's last name and position, in school colors where known, to help tell the teams apart. It carries no logos, numbers or uniform designs. Players and coaches are named only to state facts about their games and careers, and the site uses no photos of them. Every trademark belongs to its owner.

The terms

The games are free, for fun, and offered as they are. We work hard to get every number and every fact about a real coach or player right. If one is wrong, write to us: we check it against the sources, then fix it or take it down. Betting lines shown in Upset Alert are history from finished games, never current odds, offers or advice. Please don't copy the puzzles in bulk or present them as your own. The open-source code the site uses is listed in its license notices.
